
Tokyo Electric Power Company or TEPCO has collected samples of sea water about 100 yards from a nuclear reactor south. Sea water in the sample were found to contain radioactive iodine-131 that exceed legal standards 126.7 times. In addition, the substance of cesium-134 for 24.8 times, and cesium-137 at 16.5 times also contained therein.
All these substances are considered safe standards for consumption each day for ten years. The annual intake is in accordance with one millisievert, or the maximum radiation exposure per year is considered safe.
Meanwhile, the International Commission on Radiological Protection recommends that exposure be kept under one millisievert per year.
